Iowa Arts Festival is a weekendlong free community celebration featuring over 100 local and regional visual artists displaying and selling their artwork, a music festival, an Iowa filmmakers showcase called "the Iowa Picture Show", a Culinary Row serving regional and ethnic food, a variety of activities and entertainment, both creative and educational, for children and families. The Iowa Arts Festival is the most anticipated visual art-centered events of the summer. Sunday, all day is free music by The New Horizon's Band at The Englert Theatre. If you have not visited this historic theatre since it's renovation in 2005, you are in for a treat.
Iowa Arts Festival kids activities are educational and fun, and while we're still ryhming their second to none. We have puppets, and music and dancing and crafts. Kids can learn about countries and have a few laughs. Get your passport stamped at the Global Village (June 3rd) and travel from country to country, from India to The United States, from Japan to Mexico all in one day. Check out great music and dance from all over the world. Children's Day (June 4th) features over 10 booths of hands on activities, crafts and learning experiences presented by area businesses and groups.
Be sure to come hungry. Our culinary row features local food vendors with a global flavor. Roam about munching on some of the areas best variety of foods from traditional; Indian and African fare to good old fashoined B-B-Q, from eggrolls and tapas to delicious nutritious smoothies. And don't forget Sunday is the annual ICARE Pancake Breakfast (June 4th) near the Weather Dance Fountain on the Ped Mall. Chow down because you're going to need to keep your energy up to enjoy all that The Iowa Arts Festival has to offer.
