USA Special Event Description:
Each year since 1947, the Music Academy of the West in beautiful Santa Barbara has been the meeting ground for exceptional young musicians, faculty and guest artists. During the eight-week Summer School and Festival, 135 young artists in addition to faculty and guest artists perform in more than 200 events, including chamber music and orchestra concerts, masterclasses and opera, all open to the public. Concerts take place on the Music Academy campus and in downtown Santa Barbara, including in the historic Lobero Theatre. Event Performers:
The 2004 season will feature guest conductors Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Alexander Lazarev, Gerard Schwarz and Jeffrey Tate. In residence are the Canadian Brass and Brentano String Quartet. Voice Program Director is Marilyn Horne.
