What: Chalk It Up 2004 2nd Annual Street Painting & Performing Arts Festival
When: November 12 – 14, 2004
Hours: 10am – 10pm, Friday Nov. 12 & Saturday, Nov. 13. 10am - 5pm Sunday, Nov. 14
Where: Heritage Square & Science Park, 6th St. & Monroe, in Copper Square, Phoenix, AZ
Why: Chalk It Up 2004 is a distinctly Phoenix festival celebrating art-making and performance
created to bring vibrant street life to the citys downtown.
How: Entrance to the Festival is FREE. Areas within the Festival will present:
Street Painting by local and national artists using vibrant pastels to create original works
Three stages featuring music, dance, theater
Video projections on the peak of the Arizona Science Center
Film shorts presented by the Phoenix Film Festival at an outdoor theater
Installation Artworks constructed during the Festival weekend throughout Heritage Square & Science Park
Culinary art by Festival chefs
Musicians, jugglers, puppeteers doing street performance
Childrens Area where Festival volunteers will help children make their own street paintings--FREE
Special Festival Events:
The Wine Taster: Celebrating the Art of the Sommelier. Thursday Nov. 11, 4pm - 8pm at The Lath House in Heritage Square
Go toe-to-toe with the experts in blind tastings of intriguing vintages in this pre-Festival event. $35 tickets, $25 in advance
Chalk the Walk Education Day, Friday, Nov. 12, 11am - 4pm. Valley students are invited to participate with the pros in street painting, with stage performances geared for the younger audience
After Dark in the Square, Friday & Saturday, dusk to 10pm. Special performances on the main stage, film shorts at the outdoor theater and video projections on the Arizona Science Center

ARTISTS
The festival is currently accepting applications from professional, amateur and student artists for Chalk it Up.
To apply, artists must fill out an application and submit a sample of their work as well as the rendering of the piece they would like to recreate during the festival. All skill levels are encouraged to apply and will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis. There is no cost to participate as an artist and pastel chalks, along with some other necessary supplies and meals will be provided to each artist by the festival.
